I was born and raised in Cleveland County . Most of my adult life was spent in the Charlotte area, but I returned to my Cleveland County roots two years ago.
I am a firm believer in ancestral memory. Ever since I can remember I felt a need to hold a needle and thread. When I was about six years old I learned to sew on my grandmother's treadle sewing machine. (She stood by anxiously, just sure I would sew through my finger.) Over the years I have explored many forms of fiber and textile work as well as drawing, painting, sculpting, and beading, but I was never able to commit to just one thing. I discovered contemporary art dolls about seven years ago, and it seemed that all I had done before was in preparation for making dolls. Doll-making allows me to use everything I have ever learned and some things I haven't yet tried.

Some would say I am self-taught as a textile artist, but that would be a huge disservice to all those who have taught me informally over the years. Since I began doll-making I have been privileged to study with some of the nation's top doll-artists including Akira Blount, Eleanor Peace Bailey, Eleanor Peeples, Jo Ellen Trilling, Deborah Pope, Christine Shively, Arley Berryhill, Sherry Goshon, and Barbara Willis.
