Beverly Mechling
Pressed Flower Artist

My artistic endeavors began many years ago in Greensboro, NC, and they have evolved over time from general crafts and floral decorations to jewelry and belt making and then into painting, which I still enjoy; but my passion now is pressed flower creations.

I began pressing flowers in the Spring of 1999. When my husband retired we moved to our vacation log home in the North Carolina mountains. Our 40 acre home site provided me with an abundance of wildflowers to use in my creations.

After attending the John C. Campbell Folk Art School to study wildflower gardening, I have been able to integrate a larger variety of styles, colors, shapes and sizes into my work.

I thoroughly enjoy the whole process of pressed flower creations, from gathering flowers, to pressing and arranging the finished product. I have 15 large presses that are in constant rotation from Spring through Fall. After pressing, the flowers are sorted by color and stored in large plastic boxes between layers of paper towels.

Great care is taken in selecting the style and color of frames for my arrangements and I am always very thorough in my thought process of deciding exactly what colors and types of flowers go best in a particular frame. Care should be taken to keep them out of bright sunlight to minimize any fading that could occur.

I hope you and your loved ones will enjoy these flowers as much as I have enjoyed the process of bringing them to you.
